An Oak Front Door Is a Perfect Choice
There are many types of doors available on the market today for you to choose from, suitable as the front door of your home. The range is almost endless. Gone are the days when the only choice of material for doors was wood. Nowadays doors are made from lots of other materials such as plastic, composite, steel, aluminum, etc., offering a vast array of styles. Each material type has it place and inherent qualities. Doors made from these materials offer a maintenance free solution which is very attractive to the consumer.
Wood is still a favored though and still used extensively. Many hardwoods, for example mahogany, are used in the making of wooden doors used as the front main entrances to homes. Wood which is a natural material has a warm feeling preferred by some over the man made product as indicated above. Some of the man made products for example plastic or PVC lack warmth and character. Oak doors, for example, are an excellent choice for the front of your house. Oak has a beautiful grain pattern and golden yellowish color when stained. An oak front door on your home will be an asset but it is important to keep the door maintained and in good order.
Advances in the manufacturing techniques of wooden doors have come a long way. Solid wood doors from the past were prone to twisting and warping which left them drafty and poor fitting. Wooden doors made these days are engineered using advanced laminating technologies which provide doors that are more stable and are not affected in the same way as solid wood by changes in environmental conditions. Wooden engineered doors will still require an element of continuous maintenance to ensure a long life. Some manufacturers offer pre-finished doors of a high standard that do not require repainting for quite a few years. So do not be put by wooden doors.
