Are Indoor Propane Heaters Safe To Use?
Almost everybody has heard of accidents that have happened when propane heaters have been used indoors. This is why so many people have turned to electric radiator heaters in the past. However, if propane heating is used properly indoors with sufficient safety precautions taken it does not really pose any harm at all.
If you’re thinking about buying a propane heater for indoor use you should definitely buy one of the newer models available. These have built in safety features that will turn the heater off if oxygen levels are too low in the room. You do need to be careful with older propane heaters, or if you buy a secondhand propane heater, as they may not have these features. It is also a good idea to make sure that your room is sufficiently well ventilated when using this type of heater.
If you use a propane heater that is designated for indoor use and it is fairly new you should not run into any problems with it. However, problems result when people use heaters that have been designed for outdoor use inside instead. Typically, this type of thing happens when someone is camping and they use the outdoor propane heater inside their tent or cabin.
There are definitely benefits to using propane heating indoors. A small propane heater is great to have on hand in case of electricity outages especially during winter when heating is essential in many parts of the world. Some people install larger forced air, fan propane heaters in their living areas and use them for years without any problems. These larger heaters are usually vented and they also have built-in safety devices that will shut them down if there are any problems with the heating or gas levels in the room. Many find this type of heating is actually very cost efficient to run and it is also relatively easy to keep supplied with the liquid petroleum gas that is needed to run the heaters.
Providing you use a newer model propane heater and take any necessary safety precautions needed there is really no problem using propane heating indoors.
