Fitting Appliances into Small Kitchens
In this day and age, houses are getting larger and larger. In turn, the kitchens that are inside these homes are also getting bigger. Despite this, there are also millions of people that live in cities. Inner city apartments usually have small kitchens that aren’t capable of fitting the larger appliances into. Just because you have a tiny kitchen, doesn’t mean you have to go without the things that other people have though.
Appliance manufacturers know that a certain number of homes need smaller units. That is why they make smaller versions of most things like dishwashers, refrigerators, and freezers. It takes a little extra work and scouting, but you should be able to find something that will fit nicely into the space available in your kitchen.
One of the most popular appliances for small kitchens is a dishwasher. Some people think they won’t have room for one, but you can get what is called a slimline dishwasher that is specifically made for this purpose. Although exact sized vary from unit to unit, the idea is that they are thinner than normal dishwashers and can fit into tighter spots between cabinets.
Another great appliance for small kitchens is a mini fridge with freezer. If you don’t have the need to keep huge amounts of food cold, consider getting one of these smaller units. You can fit one in right under the counter if you want, or have one that is a bit taller and put a microwave on top of it. Another place people fit a larger fridge into their small kitchens is by placing a ¾ size refrigerator right under the upper cabinets, in place of one of the lower ones. Either way, it is worth spending a little extra to get one that has a working freezer, since the cheaper models usually ice up and don’t work very well.
Making the most of your available floor space will help you overcome the feeling of living in a crowded space. In fact, with the right planning you can even have room for your stainless steel water dispenser in your small kitchen. Just like it was supposed to be all along.
