Natural Gas Heaters or Radiant Heaters, Which is Best
Natural gas heaters can seem a little bit old fashioned when compared with other types of heating but the truth is that they do not have nearly as long a history as electric oil filled radiator heaters, which date all the way back to the Roman empire. Natural gas heaters have gained this reputation because they became popular when city utilities started bringing gas lines to people’s homes.
Natural gas is a very effective way to heat a home or to cook your food because it burns very cleanly, is easily transportable, and is relatively inexpensive. It also happens to be one of the best ways to heat your home. Natural gas heaters work by actually heating the air in your home first which in turn heats the objects in your home including you.
This is the opposite of infrared heaters which heat objects first but do not actually heat the air. Each has pros and cons, and the truth is that natural gas heaters are not as environmentally friendly but if you need to heat your home or other buildings and keep them heated for long periods of time, natural gas is the way to go.
It may take awhile to heat a home with natural gas because you are using the air as a conductor but it will maintain a more comfortable level of temperature than with radiant heat. If you live in a very cold area natural gas or propane is a must.
Your climate and type of construction will determine whether or not you need natural gas space heaters, a furnace system with central air or a propane heat system. If you live in the country away from city services you will probably not have gas, if this is the case you will either need to invest in a propane system with at least a 100 gallon tank or opt for electric heat.
If you live in a warmer climate natural gas space heaters may be a good answer particularly if you live in an older home with no established duct work.
When considering a heating system you may want to first consider your level of insulation. It can be cheaper to upgrade your insulation than add an entirely new heating system.
Natural gas heaters are one of the best ways to go if you are looking to warm your home for the winter without breaking the bank.
