Parts of the Standard Toilet

Toilet parts are all influential in guaranteeing you will be able to flush away your unwanted waste. The basic parts are the bowl and the tank. The bowl is the main body of the toilet. The toilet sits on the drain pipe in the floor and a wax ring guarantees a water tight seal. Now the tank is a little more complex then the rest as it holds all of the the parts that make up the magic of the toilet’s ability to do it’s job.

Water is introduced to the tank through the filler valve. The filler float is what controls the valve. When the water is low the float hangs and allows water to come through, but as the water rises the float rises with it to eventually turn of the water at the fill height. The overflow tube is there to avoid tragedy. If the filler valve were to fail the overflow directs the access water through the bowl and avoids overflowing the tank.

The flush valve is connected to the handle, and we all should know how the handle works. When you depress the handle to activate the flush valve rises. This action introduces the water from the tank through the rim. The rim of the bowl is where the water is evenly distributed around the bowl. It is a essentially a water trough that travels around the perimeter of the bowl. The rim has small holes placed strategically around that perimeter for the water to drain through. The excess water in the bowl causes the waste to flush. The waste proceeds up the back of the bowl through the bowl siphon and down the drain. The bowl siphon is an elevated exit for the water and is what causes the bowl to remain full of water. When the tank is empty the flush valve sits back against the opening and allows the tank to refill.
