Taking Care Of Your Garage Floor
Like anything else, we tend to forget about our garage floors because they are always there. When you think about it, the floor is one of the most important aspects of a garage that functions and is nice to work in. There are some easy improvements to make to this work surface which will really improve the appearance and functionality of this space.
There are two area of interest when we are upgrading the horizontal aspect of the work area and both of these are handled well with a good garage floor coating. These are the safety aspect and the protection of the floor surface. A floor that is slick and hard to walk on is not only a hindrance to productivity is also is a safety hazard. One of the main causes of accidents in homes is slips and falls with the garage being near the top as a dangerous environment.
Coating a garage floor with an epoxy based coating will protect the surface and make it safer. Epoxy is one of those space age chemical applications that came out of our industrial growth in the 1960’s and 70’s. Based on the idea that a mixture of two substances can be harder and stronger than either by itself, an epoxy is comprised of a resin and a hardener. If you doubt how strong this surface can be just think of fiberglass. Your boat or camper shell is composed of a resin, hardener, and cloth for structural strength.
Once you spread out the mixture, and before it sets up, you can sprinkler several different anti-slip substances on the surface to give you better fitting. You can actually use sand but sea sand needs to be washed first because of the salt content.
If you are looking for an easy weekend project to improve your home, take a look at putting on a garage floor coating made of epoxy.
