The Down-to-Earth Splendor of Log Cabin Siding

This country was founded by the early settlers that worked hard from sunrise to sunset cutting down trees from the local woods to build their log homes. Logs were an invaluable option as the logs for these homes could be easily adapted for many different uses and the availability of the saw mill in that time was all but nonexistent.  The settlers had to make do with whatever materials were at hand.

The pioneers were both practical and imaginative in their undertakings.   In today’s world log siding houses are a symbol of that pioneer spirit without all the heavy lifting and tough, long hours of labor. The use and construction of log siding is unsurpassed, not to mention very popular, with those trying to return to those feelings of the basics of life and those who simply recognize the value of the artistic quality of log architecture.

There is no doubt that these homes create an image of country living that goes back hundreds of years and speaks volumes about their durability. Some brands of siding are made of pine, but many in today’s market are made from quality Northern white cedar, redwood, or cypress as these have a tendency to resist insects and decay and are also very attractive. Some are made from vinyl, which is lighter and more affordable but still has that authentic appearance. It comes in many wood-type variations, is simple to install and is practically maintenance free.

Although log siding never requires painting, it is wise to recommend that it be stained and sealed on the exterior where it is most often exposed to the elements prior to installation.  By using a nail gun rather than a hammer your job and the time it takes to do the project will flow smoother and quicker.

Log cabins siding can give your home a warm, authentic look and feel.  It is available in quarter log, half log, and vinyl and will retain the classic look of olden times when everyday life was less stressed and neighbors all chipped in to give a hand. For many, a step back to where times were simpler is a good reminder of the timelines of inventions such as the light bulb, the telephone, and the sewing machine.  However, modern inventions like espresso machines are not to be overlooked!

The aesthetic significance and the uncomplicated, affordable home-spun designs of quality log cabin siding add value and enrichment to any home no matter its style.
