Think Propane Heater This Winter
I can practically guarantee you there will be a time this winter when you wished you had a propane heater. It might have happened to you last year too, but you never got around to it. Maybe be you need to do some work in your garage and you find yourself freezing out there. Maybe it will be the basement instead. Either way, it happened last year and you still haven’t done anything about it (besides get cold)
Now when you buy your propane heater, will it turn the North Pole into the tropics? Not a bad dream, but I need to lower your expectations. It will warm the room up and make it much more comfortable, but don’t go reaching for your swim trunks.
Using a propane heater over an electric oil filled radiator heater will save you money over the long haul. An electric one may be cheaper to initially to buy, but buying electricity to keep you warm is much more expensive than using propane gas as your heat source.
Propane heaters are safe to use, but there are a few things you will need to do. Do not use a heater in an unventilated room. You will risk carbon monoxide build up and that can have fatal results. Make sure the room has good airflow. When you go to use it outdoors, this will not be as much as a concern, but make sure you still have plenty of fresh air.
Other safety tips when using a propane heater. Do not use a heater near old paint cans and flammable material. There is the risk that if they are too close to the heater that a fire may start. Check to see if it has an automatic shutoff if the heater gets knocked over. Also check if it has an oxygen depletion sensor, which will turn it off if there is not enough oxygen in the room.
Look for propane heaters that have an adjustable heat setting knob. This way you will have much more control over the temperature than a cheap on/off switch model. See what the warranty is. It should not be fro less than 1 year. Very importantly, it needs to be CSA certified for safety.
